Review and Giveaway: EcoMom and Plum Organics

4 May

In my quest to be a greener, healthier Mommy I have been making my own baby food–which is great for home but not the most portable.  Enter Plum Organics from EcoMom.  Carson and I were super excited to receive our Plum Organics Sampler, which included six pouches of food–smaller pouches (3.17 oz, slightly smaller than a baby food jar) of Just Peaches, Just Mangoes, Just Pears and a Strawberry MishMash, and larger pouches (4.22 oz, slightly larger than a baby food jar) of Spinach, Peas & Pear and Pumpkin & Banana.  All the foods were made from organic fruits/veggies with nothing else added.  What you see for a name is what you get–and we like that!

The first thing you notice with the Plum Organics is the packaging.  The food comes in squeeze pouches with twist tops–which is great for transporting.  It’s super easy to just throw one or two of these in your bag and not have to worry about anything breaking.

Since I make my own organic food at home, I would say that any baby food that I am going to spend money on has to be GOOD.  One of my biggest issues with pre-made baby food is the color.  How can the peas I make at home be so bright and pretty and the peas I buy in the store be so blah and bland?  I think what impressed me most about the Plum Organics food was the color.  Since the food comes in little pouches, you don’t actually see it until you squeeze it out into the bowl, so I didn’t know what to expect.  The colors of all the foods we tried was definitely better than the stuff you find in the jars at the store, even the organic  lines.

Color is one thing, but what about the taste?  Carson liked all the pouches (we didn’t try the strawberry mish-mash yet because that is for older kids), but we both really liked the Spinach, Peas & Pear and the Pumpkin Banana.  They were really, really tasty and he gobbled both of them right up!!  Those are both something that we would order again, because I am not likely to make those combos at home.

EcoMom doesn’t just sell baby food. The Plum Organics/Revolution line offers food from the high chair to the lunchbox.  They are also an excellent resource for all things organic/green–from pregnancy all the way through early childhood.  As their website says:

Healthy living doesn’t have to be overwhelming.
Small steps matter, and make a big difference.
We Make It Easy.
Founded to address the connection between the health of our environment & the health of our children, EcoMom is committed to making eco-conscious living easy, affordable, & rewarding with education, support, tools & products.

EcoMom also has a great new program called EcoPass where you can purchase an annual membership for $99 which entitles you to 15% off on every order as well as free shipping with no $75 minimum requirement.  This is definitely worth the investment if you plan on doing repeat business with them (which you should!!).
